ASTRA Project Announces Open Access Online Learning Material: Shaping an Ecosocial Future Now!

The ASTRA project is proud to make available a unit of online learning material. This material is based on the research done by eight early-stage social work researchers completing their PhDs in the ASTRA project. Situating social work research within larger sustainability issues, the ‘Shaping an Ecosocial Future Now!’ learning material includes an introduction from the project's principal investigator, Aila-Leena Matthies, and eight recorded lectures, ranging between 30 and 45 minutes, provided by the early-stage researchers. This material is freely available to all under Creative Commons conditions
The online learning material combines diverse scientific and practical perspectives of social work and sustainability with an emphasis on core conceptualizations of the environment in social work. Using critical perspectives and transdisciplinary knowledge, each presentation aims to provide viewers with a holistic perspective on innovative approaches to the intersection of social work and sustainability. The lessons provide a robust introduction to ecosocial work, including the theoretical and practical implications of the approach when working with vulnerable communities, such as migrants and youth experiencing homelessness, as well as research related to the organizational and societal levels.
The lectures are meant to promote the continued development of ecosocial work research and practices, emphasize the importance of democratically accessible open access learning materials, and call for wider engagement in shaping an ecosocial future now!
The material can be accessed and is provided by the Finnish Library of Open Educational Resources with its European partners.
