CMBS1109 Immunologia (4 op)
Osaamistavoitteet
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to explain the properties of antigens/immunogens and provide a detailed overview of the properties & functions of the molecules, cells, tissues & organs of the immune system. She/he will be able to describe (i) concepts of innate and adaptive immunity, (ii) differences between hypersensitivity and autoimmunity as well as (iii) immunological methods used in the laboratory. To pass the course, a student must participate in the case analysis section and be successful in the exam. In addition, after the course a student will be able to discuss the most important aspects involved in the development of the immune system and the immune response against pathogens.
Suoritustavat
12 h of activating lectures on concepts surrounding immunology. 8 h of clinical cases analysis that point out the concepts covered in lectures. Activating group work.

Seminar style discussion that presents the field of immunology from a view-point of the host's interaction with its environment. Current case studies will be adopted in a problem-base learning environment that illustrate in a clinical context essential points about the mechanisms of immunity.

This course will implement problem-based learning strategies so the student adopts skills in problem solving and critical thinking. These strategies will allow students to develop the ability to think critically, analyze problems, find and use appropriate learning resources. Use of current case studies in immunology, lecture series and interactive discussions will be the modes of instructions.

Arviointiperusteet
The student is graded on the basis of participation, including completion of exercises as well as discussion groups (15%), and on the final exam (85%).
