This self-study option introduces the key theories, concepts and methods of multimodality, including multimodal discourse analysis and social semiotics, to students. The readings shed light on the relationship between language and other semiotic resources that are used to create meanings and to understand human communication. In doing this, the readings also provide tools for students to understand how current research approaches the concept of language.
