Osaamistavoitteet

After completing the course students will be able to
- understand key concepts in the study of discourse and interaction and apply them to texts, talk and digital communication in selected professional contexts
- differentiate between and discuss key theoretical and methodological approaches in the study of discourse and interaction
- use appropriate concepts and methods in analyzing discourse and interaction in the context of working life
- observe and describe discourse practices at selected workplaces

Conceptual frameworks and methods for studying discourse and interaction in a variety of working life contexts. These include ethnography, conversation analysis, critical discourse analysis and multimodal analysis. Topics also include English as a lingua franca, professional identities and communities, and digital discourse

Course materials and a list of readings are provided in Moodle. The students participating in contact teaching are expected to attend at least 80 % of the classes.

Instructions for completing the course through independent study are also provided in Moodle.
