Osaamistavoitteet
On completion of this course, the student will be able to
- identify intercultural phenomena and analyze communication across cultural and linguistic boundaries
- describe and criticize traditional and contemporary approaches to intercultural communication research
- describe and apply essential concepts of intercultural communication research
- identify and de-construct stereotypes in intercultural settings
- realistically assess trainings of intercultural competence.

This course offers an overview of and an introduction to intercultural communication. It explores the history of intercultural communication research and critically discusses major theories on and approaches to intercultural communication; it discusses the influence of stereotypes and effects and consequences of prejudice and racism in intercultural communication; it analyzes interactions in different, multilingual and multicultural settings, and it discusses how intercultural competence can be acquired.
