Osaamistavoitteet
On completion of this course, the student will be able to
- describe and analyze aspects of the intimate connection between language, language use and society
- define and apply basic sociolinguistic concepts
- apply interaction-oriented sociolinguistic methods to analyze language in different, also multilingual and multicultural contexts
- describe and analyze how language is intertwined with identity, power and ideology
- develop own research questions in the field of sociolinguistics.

This course introduces the student to interaction-oriented sociolinguistics and discourse studies. It focuses on the organization of interaction, on multilingualism and multilingual communication, on language and identity, language and power, and language planning and policy.
