On completing this course, the student will be able to
- define concepts related to culture and identity
- explain how cultural processes such as racialisation function
- understand and be sensitive about the issue of perspective in confronting intercultural issues
- use critical reading techniques in practice.

This course focuses on some basic issues of comparative cultural studies. It introduces the participant to concepts and definitions of culture such as identity, gender, class, ethnicity, race, place, nation, perspective and representation. Moreover, the problems of comparing cultures are dealt with in the context of multiculturalism, commercialism and globalisation.
