After completing the course, the student
• is familiar with theoretical conceptualisations of language policy and language planning
• understands language policy and planning as a political and ideological construct
• is familiar with the specific questions of the language policies in different international, national and local contexts
• understands the significance of language policy and planning as a multi-layered and multisited activity
• can apply her knowledge in the analysis of different language policy environments

The course presents a multi-layered and multi-sited approach to language policy and language planning. The themes are connected with the micro and macro aspects of language policies as embedded in contexts of globalization, migration, majority and minority relationships, family language policies etc. The course is concerned with legally imposed as well as experienced policies.
