Osaamistavoitteet
After completing the course students will be able to:
- understand major trends and developments within British cultural and literary history
- relate the themes and features of 鈥榗lassic鈥� British novels to their sociocultural and historical contexts
- interpret and analyze the novels, applying a variety of approaches to literary criticism
Suoritustavat
Lectures, reading (at home), in-class group discussion (students will work in groups of 4 or 5, i.e. their 鈥榬eading circles鈥�), and a final written exam.

On this course, students will familiarize themselves with 鈥榗lassic鈥� British novels, while overviewing four eras in British cultural and literary history.
Oppimateriaalit
In groups, students will select 3 or 4 classic novels from different eras in British literary history.
Arviointiperusteet
Based on active class participation (83% attendance) and a written exam at the end of the course.
