Biography

I am a condensed matter theorist with expertise and interested towards quantum properties of materials and devices. I am in particular interested in the following topics:

  • Flat-band superconductivity - I participate in the SuperC2033 consortium (superc2033.com)
  • Nonequilibrium and inhomogeneous superconductivity
  • Superconductor/ferromagnet heterostructures, superconducting spintronics
  • Topological media, especially topological semimetals, nodal line semimetals
  • Dynamic properties of quantum matter
  • Open quantum systems
  • Optomechanics and magnomechanics
  • Heat transport and thermoelectricity in mesoscopic electron systems; fluctuation theorems
  • Josephson diodes and non-reciprocal transport
  • Spin and orbital Hall effects and torque; kinetic theory in multiband systems

We use various theory techniques in these projects - whatever is needed for the precise problem at hand. In particular, I have experience in using these techniques:

  • Keldysh Green's functions and real-time quantum kinetic theory
  • Quasiclassical theory of superconductivity
  • Path integrals for real-time phenomena: in particular, for fluctuations and collective modes
  • Scattering theory
  • Methods for open quantum systems: quantum master equations, input/output equations, quantum jump methods
  • Different types of tight binding lattice models

I participate in different research consortia. For example

  • SuperC collaboration (superc2033.com)
  • JoGate H2020 project, due to start in Dec 2023
  • Finnish Quantum Flagship, due to start in 2024

Research interests

Our nanoelectronics research combines fundamental and applied research. On one hand we study the basic properties of matter and aim at tailoring them, on the other hand the research may lead to new functionalities which in the long term may be applied in consumer electronics.
