FYSS5440 Quantum Monte Carlo Methods (3 cr)
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, students will be able to calculate the properties of a system described by a wave function using Variational Monte Carlo as well as calculate the ground state properties of bosonic systems using Diffusion Monte Carlo. Students will be able to explain the mathematical and algorithmic principles of solving fermion system ground state properties. They can also calculate the finite temperature properties of simple bosonic systems using PIMC.
Study methods
Examination.
Content
Solving many-body Schr枚dinger equation using stochastic methods; Variational Monte Carlo (VMC) method; Diffusion Monte Carlo (DMC) method; Path Integral Monte Carlo (PIMC) method.
